Kodóó Hózhó Dooleeł: It Begins in Beauty
As we start this new chapter in our journey, moving into Missionary Diocese Status, we’re invited to reflect on the idea of Hózhó, a concept that’s much deeper than just “beauty” or “harmony.” It’s about living in balance, not just with ourselves but with the world and people in our lives. It’s about embracing a way of being connected to nature, our faith, and each other.
At its core, Hózhó is more than something we experience—it’s something we actively live out. It’s about finding beauty, balance, and well-being in all things. In the context of our mission, it challenges us to understand that beauty isn’t a destination we reach or something that’s just “nice to have.” Instead, it’s a force that moves us forward—rooted in the same values of hope, love, compassion, and unity that guide our faith. These principles connect us to God, each other, and the world we serve. In embracing this beauty, we find our strength and purpose.
One of the central ideas of Hózhó is interconnectedness. It reminds us that we’re all connected and that our actions impact others. “Walking in Beauty” (Hózhó naasha) isn’t just about looking for beauty—it’s about being intentional in moving through the world, always striving to maintain balance and harmony. When we walk this path, we know we’re part of something bigger, and every step counts.
And when things get tough, we can hold on to the words Hózhó Nahasdlii—”All is beautiful again.” It’s a reminder that even when we face challenges, beauty can always be restored. There’s always an opportunity to return to balance, reset, and see things with fresh eyes.
As we look to the future, let’s find beauty in our faith, in our community, and in the work ahead. Let’s walk in harmony with each other, reflecting that beauty in the way we serve, love, and grow together.
Prayer: May we always find beauty in the small sacred moments of life. May that beauty guide us as we step forward in faith and purpose, keeping harmony and unity at the heart of everything we do. -Amen
