Walking Together Toward Election

Yaʼiishjááshchilí (June), in Diné tradition, is a time of early planting. As this season approaches, we enter the final days before the Election Convention. After years of prayer, preparation, and walking this journey together, we now prepare to plant new seeds, trusting in what Diyin God may bring forth in the seasons ahead.

Discernment, like tending a field, takes patience, care, wisdom, and community. We do not yet know all that will grow, but we move forward together in hope and faith.

Join us as Navajoland gathers in prayer and discernment to elect our first Bishop Diocesan.

New Mission Prayer

After over a year of dedicated work, we are excited to announce the approval of our new Mission Statement. The Navajo translation was unanimously approved on February 22nd, 2025, followed by the approval of the English translation on March 26th, 2025. This marks an important milestone in our ongoing commitment to cultural respect and clarity in our mission.

In the name of Jesus Christ, the Holy One,

We set out to walk in harmony,

Seeking forgiveness and wholeness.

Through compassion and service,

Love binds us in relationship to all creation.

In the Beauty Way all is restored again.

The Episcopal Church began a medical mission in Ft. Defiance, Arizona, in 1894, Farmington, NM, in 1922, and Bluff, UT, in 1942. All real Missions started as Medical Missions. In 1978, the Episcopal Church founded the Area Mission on the 27,000 square miles in Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah, contiguous with the Navajo Nation. Until recently, our buildings were falling into disrepair, and leadership and vision came from non-native clergy.

Presiding Bishop Sean Rowe Visits Navajoland

In early April, Presiding Bishop Sean Rowe visited several of our congregations across Navajoland. His journey began at All Saints Church in Farmington, followed by stops at St. Michael’s in Upper Fruitland, NM; St. John’s in Montezuma Creek, Utah; and St. Christopher’s Mission in Bluff, Utah. On Sunday, he participated in the 8 AM service at St. Mark’s in Coal Mine and the 10 AM service at Good Shepherd Mission.

We were honored to welcome him and grateful for the opportunity to hear his reflections, engage in thoughtful conversation, and share meals with our Navajoland clergy and Provisional Bishop Barry Beisner.

We extend our sincere thanks for his presence and offer our prayers and support as he continues to lead the Episcopal Church in his role as Presiding Bishop.

Hybrid Wellbriety Talking Circle

Rooted in healing, listening, and community, the Wellbriety Talking Circles offer a safe and welcoming space for individuals to gather, share, and support one another along the journey toward wellness and balance.

Guided by Indigenous values and the spirit of mutual respect, these circles encourage conversation, storytelling, prayer, reflection, and healing from the impacts of addiction, grief, trauma, and life’s challenges.

The Wellbriety movement blends Native traditions, cultural identity, and recovery principles, emphasizing that healing happens through connection with Creator, culture, community, family, and self.

Whether someone is seeking recovery, encouragement, or simply a place to be heard, all are welcome to join the circle.
