Safe Church Training
By GJ Gordy
During this new chapter, it’s essential to prioritize the safety and well-being of all members, especially those who are vulnerable. Leaders—whether ordained clergy, lay staff, volunteers, or key holders—must understand their responsibility in maintaining safe, respectful relationships. Power imbalances in these roles can lead to harm, and it is vital that we educate ourselves to create a safe and balanced environment for all.
The Episcopal Church updated its Model Policies for the Protection of Children and Youth in 2017. In 2021, Safe Church, Safe Communities courses were launched on the Praesidium Academy platform to help us understand these policies and respond to power imbalances effectively.
In Navajoland, every member has a role in safeguarding our community. Whether clergy, staff, or volunteer, we each contribute to the health of the body of Christ. We are all called to protect and uplift one another, ensuring that our community remains safe and harmonious.
You can complete the courses from home. Please speak with your clergy today to start your training and help us build a strong, safe foundation for Navajoland.
