Náásgóó Iiná Baa Hózhó- Going forward life is beautiful
June 6 & 7 | Good Shepherd Mission, Fort Defiance, Arizona
This year marks a monumental moment in the life of our Church in Navajoland, as we gathered in June 2025 for the historic 1st Convention as a Missionary Diocese, continuing a legacy rooted in faith, culture, and community.
As part of this new chapter, we had planned to hold the 49th Convocation in November 2025. After prayer and discernment, we have moved the Convocation to June 12–13, 2026, in Bluff, Utah, so that more families can join during the summer months when travel is easier and school is on break.
To support this shift, the Diocesan Convention will now be held virtually on November 7, 2026. This will be a business-only session for elected leaders of Navajoland, addressing essential matters such as elections, canonical changes, and proposed resolutions. Much like our traditional autumn preparations—when we ready ourselves for the winter months—this time will be dedicated to the necessary work of leadership and governance.
The 49th Convocation in June 2026 will be a gathering open to all guests, centered on celebration and community. Echoing the spirit of our traditional summer and winter gatherings, this event will focus on togetherness, teachings, prayer songs, and shared achievements. It will be a sacred time for reflection, learning, and honoring our cultural and spiritual traditions.
Through this new approach, we hope to weave together our cultural rhythms and the mission of the Church, creating space for both sacred business and joyful celebration at the appropriate times of the year.
What is the ECN Convention?
For us in the Episcopal Church in Navajoland (ECN), the ECN Convention is more than just a meeting—it’s a powerful gathering of our people and our Church. It’s where we come together across New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah, which are all part of the Navajo Nation, to do the work of the Church—things like elections, reports, and planning—but in a way that’s rooted in who we are as Diné.
This year’s Convention is extra special. It’s the first Annual Convention since ECN became a Missionary Diocese in the Episcopal Church. That’s a big step forward. It means we have space to grow and lead in ways that reflect our own values, culture, and ways of being Church together.
We’ll be gathering June 6–7, 2025, at Good Shepherd Mission in Fort Defiance, Arizona. That land holds deep meaning for many of us, and it’s the perfect place to begin this next chapter.
If you’re part of a convocation or committee, your reports are due by June 2, and should be sent to Margaret Putnam as a PDF. These reports may not be flashy, but they really do matter—and I’m thankful to everyone who puts in the time to share them.
This Convention isn’t just about business—it’s about being together, in ceremony, in prayer, and in community. It’s about being the Church, our Church, in the heart of Navajoland.

Community Recognition Healing Prayer Service
For many years now, we’ve started each Annual Gathering with a Friday evening healing service. This June, we’ll keep that tradition alive, coming together for a time of prayer, healing, and recognition.
Healing Prayer Focuses:
We welcome prayers for any group or organization that’s working towards justice and healing, such as:
-
Those fighting for equality and human rights
-
Groups supporting victims of violence and trauma
-
Communities impacted by injustice and discrimination
-
Movements that focus on healing, reconciliation, and restoration
Prayers from Our Community:
We invite you to bring your prayers for these causes, or for any organization or group that’s making a difference. We’ll gather all the prayers from our community, so they can be included in the healing service.
Submit Your Prayers:
If you’d like to share a prayer, you can bring it with you to the service, or send it in beforehand. You can send your prayers or submissions below, and we’ll make sure they’re part of the healing circle.
Let’s come together in strength, unity, and healing, for our people and our world.
